What is Soundboard Cleaning?

Bring back the shine in your soundboard! We have the tools to get under the strings to remove dust and polish the soundboard.

Why is this important?

1. Dust and grime can hinder the sound of your piano

2. Dust and grime can eat away at important parts of your piano

3. A clean piano looks great!

Why do pianos go out of tune?

The number one reason: humidity changes. Your piano’s soundboard (and many parts!) are made of wood that will grow or shrink depending on the air moisture.

What are the practical implications of this?

1. Realize your piano will go in and out of tune depending on the season. In fact, if it is out of tune and you wait a few months, it will may very well go back INTO tune when the humidity returns to the same conditions in which it was last tuned. The ideal schedule for tunings is every 6 months, but if your ears are okay with it, then at least once a year is recommended.

2. Wait at least 2 weeks after you turn your seasonal heat on or off before having your piano tuned so it has time to adjust to the new moisture levels in your home.

3. Consider having our certified installer put a Dampp-Chaser Piano Life Saver system in your vertical or grand piano (see graphic). This will help keep your piano’s humidity stable no matter the season. This is both good for your piano and good for it’s tuning stability.
